read me my fortune?

I collect fortune cookie fortunes. It started out with a few choice fortunes that held some significance and meaning to me. You know, the few fortunes that actually seem to have it right, like it was written for you personally. The kind that actually make you believe, for a moment or two, that fortunes are real.

That's where it began. But as the months and years went by the meanings faded. They were no longer relevant, no longer important. But I kept them. Even when the ink began to fade into incoherent scribble, those tokens of past, present, and future remained with me. Each one special, each one different. And I'm sure there are twins or even triplets in there somewhere but I never seem to remember long enough to compare.
I cannot bring myself to throw them out, for the memory of those five minutes of clarity and purpose are precious and should not be forgotten.
